Jazz Drummer Roberto Dani featured on ECM Records
Drummer and composer Roberto Dani recently recorded with fellow Italian pianist Stefano Battaglia the second album for ECM Records, produced by the legendary Manfred Eicher. Battaglia's 2007 album, "Re: Pasolini", which featured Dani, was also released by ECM Records. Dani has recently received attention with his solo drum project, Drama, released on Blue Music Group, and "RAM", a duo with live sampling wizard Michele Tadini. Dani has a long career in jazz drumming, having been an important force in the Italian, Scandinavian and American music scenes since the early 1990s. Most notably, his debut album, Images, featured vocalist Norma Winstone, who was awarded with the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honors in 2007.
Roberto Dani was born in Vicenza, Italy in 1969. He started playing drums at age 7. In his early twenties, he performed and recorded with the progressive rock group "Devil Doll" before receiving a scholarship in 1994 to study at the Berklee College of Music. Subsequently, Dani toured Europe, the United States and Japan. In addition to many jazz festival performances in Scandinavia and the United Kingdom, Dani recorded for Radio Finland YLE, The Swedish National Radio and the BBC. In 1997 Dani was asked to perform with the acclaimed Canadian trumpeter Kenny Wheeler. Dani has also played with Giorgio Gaslini Chamber Trio, Alberto Pinton, Ralph Alessi, Mick Goodrick, Erik Friedlander, Dave Liebman and Al DiMeola. Dani is one of the most accomplished improvising musicians in Italy, and his list of recent concerts include venues in Israel, Japan, Ethiopia, Mexico, The United States and several South American countries.
